Talimena Scenic Drive

My wife and I drove to Talihina, Ok on a beautiful Fall Friday for my first visit to the Talimena Scenic Drive. It was a great day to see so much of eastern Oklahoma I had never seen before. Apparently, it was “Casual Cow Friday.” Most of the thousands of cows we drove by were laying in the grass enjoying the sunshine. I checked with the ranger station before getting the drone out on the scenic drive. The ranger said the trees were in the middle of the turn. We stuck to the main drive on the Oklahoma side of the drive. I hope to go back and find some more spots to fly from with a bit more interest in the foreground. The vistas are great, but really they let people see long distances. I hope to get back when the trees are more colorful. I guess that means a part 2 if I can.

Crowder Lake

I took my dad out to show off my Mavic Air 2. It was windy and cold, which dad hates both, but I convinced him to bundle up so I could show him how this drone responds to conditions. He was convinced I would blow it into the lake.

The drone did fine until it got closer to 30 meters up. At that altitude, it started to give me warnings, so I descended to keep it from blowing away as my dad feared it would. I was still able to get some good pictures. The overcast sky gave a softness to the light that suffused everything. The overall greyness gives a neutral feeling to the landscape. I wouldn’t want to see it every day, but here in late October, it seems appropriate.
