Surveying Family Land

This week of thankfulness has me thinking of those who have gone before, but also the hope of youth. My nephew and I have been discussing improvements to this 80 acres of land my father-in-law bought in the early 1990s. He bought it to have a place to go into the woods with his family. He, my brother-in-law, and I had some good times, hiking, hunting, and camping out there, We planned and plotted all the improvements we wanted to make so Papaw (my father-in-law) could hand down a precious gift to his grandkids.

My father-in-law passed away in 1996, and my brother-in-law moved to Texas around the year 2000 and passed away in 2015. He was able to pass a love of that land on to his son, my nephew, who has me excited about it again. I haven’t been on the land really in 20+ years. He and some friends have repaired the fence and cleared some of the brush. There’s a lot still to do, but I have the same desire as Papaw maybe even more. I would love to build a home there and hold classes for people on a variety of topics just like I do now in my day job, but my focus would be on how God has given us this great world and we can learn so much from being a part of it. The second picture in the gallery below shows right where I would put my Earthship.
